Amaawathura Getapada Akaaradiya

Amavathura is considered the first complete prose work in Sinhalese literature. Its author Gurulugomin though a scholar of Pali and Sanskrit languages of the ancient orient writes in simple yet classical Sinhalese to suit a common audience. Gurulogomi primarily bases his work on one major characteristic of the Buddha - purisadamma sarathi (the ability to tame difficult humans). It is a popular work in the ancient classical Sinhalese literature. Venerable Professor Agalakada Sirisumana Thera offers a glossary of obscure words found in the classical text in order to annotate them. The modern readers will now be able to read Amavathura without much difficulty thanks to the efforts of the Buddhist scholar.
