Bin Kaluwara

The village in Sri Lanka has been facing a gradual evolution from traditional lifestyle to urbanisation and techno - driven lifestyle. However some villages still retain their indigenous features. Sisira Malalasekara’s Bin Kaluwara touches the lifestyles of the villagers domiciled in the H Zone of Mahaweli development project in Sri Lanka. The novel exhibits the author’s extensive research on the villagers’ lifestyle beliefs faiths and culture. Their actions were in sync with nature. With the advent of technology and urbanisation these villagers had darkness fallen upon their life. Some of them could not cope with the changes of modern technology. Malalasekara’s work deals with the villagers and how they struggle to cope with the modernity as against their own traditional lifestyle.
