Death was hovering overhead Wilber the innocent pig from the day it was born. The owner of the livestock farm was unhappy that the baby pig was too small and weak so he wanted to end its life. However his eight year old daughter Fern pleaded with her father to spare the life of this newly born. Fern took charge of bringing up Wilber who grew up to be fat and strong. In the company of other animals and birds Wilber proved to be loveable and playful. In the meantime Wilber heard that it was to be killed to make food products like ham bacon etc. Charlotte the spider the pig’s closest friend planned the rescue of Wilber from imminent death by using cobweb. The story is lively and heart rending with animals and birds behaving like human beings.
