Dāthāvansa is a Sri Lanka chronicle that records the historical account of Bringing the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha to Sri Lanka by Prince Danta and Princess Hemamala. From the Kingdom of Kaling in India during the reign of Kirthi Sri Megha authored by Ven - Dharmakirthi 1 in the 13th century C.E. It is a Pali version of a pre - existing Sinhala Chronicle intended to educate foreign Buddhists. Observing chronicle tradition it presents a complete record of antecedent events including Bodhisattva legends Life of the Buddha from Enlightenment to Parinibbana and distribution of Relics. Following Chronicle style it is compiled in verse. The work is replete with all the customary exegetical annotations in respect of each verse including the word - for - word paraphrase constructed prose order and explanatory details and commentarial elaborations. It is comprehensively edited for use by students.
