A historical message poem written during the Kingdom of Gampola Sri Lanka in 14th Century. The author is regarded to be a grandson of Guruludemi a renowned poet in ancient Sri Lanka. This is considered being one of the first - born two message poems in Sri Lankan. The messenger of Mayura Sandeshaya was a Peacock. The receiver was the God Upulwan. The Peacock was entrusted the task of making a plea to God Upulwan to vest all strengths in the King Buwanekabahu IV of Gampola enabling him to defeat all sorts of antagonistic forces and to eliminate misbehaviors of Sri Lanka. The messenger’s tour was from Gampola to Devinuwara. Throughout the description of messenger’s route the poet has displayed his rhythmical instinct with expressive qualities of classic poems. Being full of symbolic imaginations Mayura Sandeshaya is capable of implanting and enhancing poetic intuitions in the readers. As an edition with in - depth commentaries this book immensely serves the academics for their broader instinct in classical poetic literature in Sri Lanka.
