Padya Chudamanhi

This Sanskrit work is based on Lalita Vistaraya and Ashvagosha’s Buddha Charitaya of classical literature. Although there is no direct reference to an author the verses attribute the authorship to Buddhagosha. The editors of the compilation indicate that Buddhagosha was influenced by the numerous books woven around the Buddha’s life had influenced Buddhagosha to compose a Sanskrit work of poetry on the same subject. However Buddhagosha takes a different route from Lalita Vistaraya and Buddha Charitaya in picturing the Buddha’s life. He omits some major incidents in the Buddha’s life though it does not affect the flow of the work. The present compilation features 3 (three) cantos from the third to the fifth canto.
