This book is an annotated students’ edition of a Pali text prescribed for the intermediate examination of the Oriental Studies Society. The text covers a segment narrating the events from the first visit of the Lord Gauthama Buddha to Sri Lanka to the end of the episode terminating with the Loard Gauthama Buddha placed the Foot Print on Samantakuta. This text is a Pali poetical work written by a Bhikkhu named Vedeha which can be classified in Pali literature as a Minor Chronicle. It records the saga of the placing of sacred Foot Print of the Lord Gauthama Buddha on the summit Mount Samantakuta with full details of events and related phenomena that evoke feelings of veneration amongst the devotes. This book covers the main antecedent events. Being a students’ edition targeted for an examination it contains the essential tutorial aids. It opens with an Introductory Preface followed by the prescribed Pali text in verse. In the explanatory section each verse reproduced is followed by a word - for word paraphrase supported by the constructed Sinhala translation and additional annotations where necessary and relevant. The text concludes with a comprehensive summary of the whole episode.
