Sanna Sahitha Wuththamala Sandesa Sathakaya

This book is authored by a Sri Lankan scholarly monk who lived during 15th century. The book is woven around Dedigama a province in rural Sri Lanka. It could be possibly as it was a mainstream city in Sri Lanka during King Parakramabahu VI. Beginning from describing Dedigama the book goes on with a vivid picture of the scholarly Buddhist monks and Kelaniya (another mainstream city in Sri Lanka). The poetic work ends with a prayer for God Vibheeshana the guardian deity of Kelaniya for the well being of king and his family. The poetry in 102 verses is full of similes and metaphors especially in city descriptions. Venerable Professor Piyarathana Thera’s edition offers connotations and annotations to the Pali verses so that the reader gets a clear picture about the ancient Sri Lanka.
