Sithiyam Sahitha Purana Wessanthara Jathaka Kavyaya Saha Bhawasannaya

This text is based on the ancient ola - leaf script of the Jathaka Potha. Jathaka Stories are recognized by scholars as episodes of birth legend of lord Gauthama Buddha as Bodisathwa while fulfilling the perfections (Parami). Wessanthara Jathaka enlightens the perfection of ‘Dana’ (giving away) of every belonging even his two children in order to gather merit to attain Nibbhana. This text opens with an introductory preface which provides the reader with an analytical insight on Jathaka stories and its influence towards the nourishment of Sinhala literature. The Wessanthara Jathaka in its original form is presented then followed by the intelligible verses in Sinhala in verse with exploratory clarification and extended comments where relevant.
