Therawadi Samanera Bana Daham Potha is a concise manual for novice monks and the layman who intend to take up robes. The manual contains a brief history of the Buddhist Order in Sri Lanka the way of ordinance the basic precepts for a novice monk the basic questions inquired from a novice monk and many other basics a novice monk has to know. The Buddhist Order begins with the Buddha’s Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta delivered for the five ascetics. At the end of the sermon Ascetic Kondanna attained the first path of sainthood sotapanna. As he asked the Buddha to be ordained the Buddhist Order came to be established. The Buddha’s acceptance and instructions for Kondanna turned out to be the model for the thousands of monks to take up robes later on.
