Wandana Kavi Sahithya

Till about six decades ago the Sinhala Buddhist folk used to visit places of religious interest to pay homage in groups on foot or perhaps using bullock carts. In such lengthy journeys they had to pass through jungles with wild beasts climb mountains and walk under hot sun. They used to recite verses in high tones in order get rid of their tiredness protect from the wild beasts and invoke blessing of the triple gems and gods on them during these homage tours. The main objective of this edition is to remind this valuable piece folk literature to the present generations. This text opens with an enlightening introduction which provides the reader a vast awareness of the history and evaluation of the “Wandana Kavi” (verses of homage) and its importance in the folk literature. The edition successfully presented series of “Wandana Kavi” under twelve chapters with exploratory clarifications extended comments where relevant and details of prosody adverted in the verses.
