Authored by Venerable Weththawe Himi the Guttila is based on Guttila Jataka. It is a tale of musician Guttila and his contest with his student Musila. After Guttila taught everything he knew on music his student Musila challenges him for a contest at the King’s court to win the title of Royal Musician. Guttila favoured by God Sakka wins the contest easily and Musila is led to his own doom. The Buddha related this story in reference to Devadattha who practised animosities against his erstwhile cousin. The book is said to have been written by Venerable Wattawe Thera to prove his obedience to his teacher Venerable Totagamuwe Rahula Thera. This long poem contains five hundred and eleven( 511) quatrains. The work is one of the most popular poetry collections in Sinhalese literature.
